Nicky Bassett Powell is the National Coordinator for the Wheels to Work Association and a Director of Rowan Public Affairs Ltd.
She has been riding motorcycles for over twenty years. Having joined the Motor Cycle Action Group in the summer of 1995 she became the local representative of one the most active groups in the country, involved in lobbying local, regional and national Government on a number of motorcycle issues. She is still very active in the motorcycle lobby. Whilst living in her home county of Cornwall she worked with Cornwall Council on setting up of their Motorcyclists Forum and the production of their Motorcycle Strategy.
She is has worked on various projects for the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCIA) liaising with Local Authorities and advising them on the Motorcycling content within their Local Transport Plans. Wheels to Work featured strongly in this advice which resulted in several Authorities pledging support for W2W within their Local Transport Plans.
In 2009 the MCIA asked her to take on a project to research the then current situation with Wheels to Work schemes, and subsequently work with Government departments to raise the profile of W2W. In 2012 the Department for Transport awarded a small grant to create the Wheels to Work Association and she has been the National Coordinator and representative for W2W schemes across the country since the inception of the Association.
She represents W2W on the Defra Transport Reference Group and the Defra/Department for Transport Working Group on Transport for Young People. In 2015, Nicky and her husband relocated to North Wales to be closer to family and get the opportunity to have some of the best motorcycling roads in the country on their doorstep.
