Where is W2W?
- There are currently 38 W2W schemes operating in the UK that offer the loan or rental of mopeds, small motorcycles, bicycles, subsidised bus travel and in one instance small cars.
- The schemes are run by local authorities, charities, social enterprises and community interest companies. All these organisations are run on a not-for-private-profit basis.
- A contribution of around £20 - £35 per week is required from the client depending on the type of vehicle. W2W schemes provide compulsory basic training (CBT), insurance, Vehicle Excise Duty, and maintenance of the vehicle. Clients will also receive protective equipment (helmets, gloves and jackets) although in some cases these costs have to be borne by the client.
- The loan of the vehicle usually lasts until the person has succeeded in obtaining their own transport - generally around 6 months
